Peyton Hanschen

Peyton has a flair for the dramatic. In 2009, Peyton was born with a significant heart defect. At eight days old, she underwent open-heart surgery. (To read more about our gut-wrenching journey, check out The Work of God Displayed.)

Originally, we thought Peyton was Rayna version 2.0--the red hair, the insane curls, the petite build... We were wrong. She is Rayna on steroids! The zeal, the independence, the inquisitiveness, the leadership bias--all have been amplified in Peyton.

One of my favorite reports from her preschool teacher described an event that took place outside on the playscape one day. On her own volition and initiative, she organized her entire class--including the teachers--into a train and led them around the playground. Evidently, getting promoted to this class well ahead of her age group didn't slow her down.
